Pyjamas originated as oriental cocktail dress for guys and became very popular amongst Western missionaries. Inside the 18th century, the British missionaries adopted the styles as sleepwear for boys and men alike. And throughout the twentieth century, pyjamas replaced nightshirts since the normal sleepwear style for UK male population.
It wasn't until later though that pajamas became popular women nightwear in Western society. Today, different styles and colours of pajamas are for sale to both males and females.
Chemise
Chemises could be traced on the tunic-like garments worn in ancient cultures and so are referred to as first women nightwear noisy . ancient.
Chemises in medieval Europe had a dual function- they were used both being a sleeping gowns and underwear for females. The long garment protected clothing from sweat and body oils called the only clothing item a woman could wash often throughout the Old.
Nightgowns/Nightshirts
